Every year, on Christmas Eve, my mom's side of the family gets together at our house. We dance to hispanic Christmas songs, eat until we cant eat any more, and entertain the little ones with thoughts of Santa jumping from house to house without a sound. This year my creative cooking side has decided to make an appearance. Over the past few days I have scoured Pinterest for the perfect, child-friendly dessert to make for my cousins. They range from 14 yrs - 6 yrs so it has to be presentable but still tasty. I came across this one YouTube video done by MyCupcakeAddiction that we're sticking shaped cakepops and that's when I knew what I wanted to do. (I'll link the video below if you would like to follow those step by step)

Ok now to the actual baking part!

1. I started my cakepops the regular way any non-chef would, a boxcake mix. I assembled my basic vanilla cake according to the directions and let it bake and cool completely. A key step is to let is cool

2. Next I broke up the cake into a large mixing bowl and slowly mushed it together with small amounts of icing. Adding icing until a wet sand consistency with only little crumbs at the bottom of the bowl.

3. Once you're done mushing, pull off small amounts to make the desired shaped. For my cakepops I decided on one shape: a regular cone to make Christmas trees. With my amount of mixture I was able to make 34 trees

4. Place the cake balls on a tray and let cool in the fridge for 30 minutes. While the cakepops are in the fridge, melt some chocolate of your desired color or taste to use as a glue for the sticks.

5. Take your lollipop sticks and your cake balls out of the fridge. Dip the lollipop stick about half an inch into the icing and insert into the cake balls. Don't go to far or push too hard or else the ball will break. If the balls are still too malleable leave in fridge for another 5-10 minutes.

6. While they harden melt more chocolate to submerge the cakepops in. I ended up using two bags of green candy melts for the trees. Once they were dunked I used my diy skills to make a makeshift stand out of two shoe boxes with some holes.

7. From here I let them harden in the fridge over night and sat because my feet hurt from 5 non-stop hours of baking.

8. To decorate the trees I used the left over green to pipe a circle around the tree and quickly after dip into some sanding sugar.

And there you have it! Cute little trees perfect for any party or get together. (P.S. I had forgotten to take a final picture so sorry there is only one cakepop in the photo) The final consensus after everyone had tasted one was that they were moist and sweet and something very pleasing to the eye. If you guys do decide to try this out for yourself please tweet me or tag me in your photos on Instagram. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and Happy Holidays
